Frequently asked questions

Who are Asthma UK?

Asthma UK are an organisation with a long history, stretching all the way back to 1927, and the founding of the Asthma Research Council. In 1989 we became the National Asthma Campaign, which in turn became Asthma UK in 2004.

In 2020 Asthma UK merged with the British Lung Foundation to become the Asthma UK and British Lung Foundation Partnership.

How much does Asthma UK receive from each £1 entry?

From each £1 lottery entry, Asthma UK receives a minimum of 60p (60%).

The remaining 40% is split between covering the prize fund (18.4%) and the costs of administering the lottery (21.6%).

How old must I be to enter?

You must be at least 16 years old to play the lottery.

How will I know if I'm in the draw?

Within 21 days of signing up you will receive a letter of confirmation which includes your unique lottery number(s). You will also be given the date you will first be included in the draw.

How many entries can I have?

You can have a maximum of 20 lottery numbers in play per each weekly draw.

Why does a monthly Direct Debit start from £4.34?

The lottery draw takes place every Friday and sometimes in a month there are 5 Fridays rather than 4.

By paying an additional 34p per month the additional credit will accumulate to cover the additional draw on the months with 5 Fridays.

Why is the minimum fee £13 when paying by debit card?

Due to the costs incurred for payment processing and administration it would be cost prohibitive to offer a lower payment amount for debit card payments.

Can I choose my own lottery number?

No. When you enter the lottery, you will be sent a unique 6-digit number. This number will be chosen at random and will be your number for as long as you play our lottery.

How do I claim a prize?

With the Asthma UK Lottery you do not need to make a claim for any prizes. All prizes are sent to you automatically.

How much does it cost Asthma UK if I win?

There is no cost to Asthma UK if you win. The draw is a number-match game, so the cost of prizes are covered by the time the number is drawn and prizes distributed.
